MOHALI: Punjab School Education Board(PSEB), Mohali, on Friday decided to introduce semester system from nextacademic session (2010-11) for class X and XII. It has also been decided thatstudents would also have to write one subjective and one objective paper each.After much deliberation, the Board has also decided to continue with class VIIIboard examination.
on Friday, academician from across the stategathered at PSEB headquarters in Mohali to discuss and deliberate upon theissue. Board chairman Dalbir Singh Dhillon informed that apart from introducingsemester system in class X and XII, the Board has also decided to continue withcomprehensive continuous valuation (CCV) system being followed on the pattern ofCBSE.
Dhillon said that under the CCV system, students would beawarded 20 marks for each board classes. Disclosing that the Board has devised apass formula for students, Dhillon said that subjects have been divided intodifferent groups and clearing certain subjects from each group has been madecompulsory. Subjects like English, math, science and Punjabi have been madecompulsory, students would be required to clear one one of other subjects likesocial study and Hindi. likewise, computer science, physical education and oneadditional subject would also be taught in the schools for which the examinationpapers would be set by the Board but the answer sheets would be checked inschools itself.
Dhillon said that the Board would award both gradesand marks. recently, the Union ministry of human resource development hadwritten to different state education boards including PSEB on the issue of doingaway with class VIII board examination. Dhillon on Friday announced that classVIII board would continue.
