Indonesian House Will help Audit Agency get Century Financial Data
The deputy chairman of the House of Representatives, Priyo Budi Santoso, said the House will try to get the Financial Transaction and Analysis Center (PPATK) to cooperate with the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) to give the agency the data of where the Bank Century bailout money went.
Priyo said the BPK chairman told the House (DPR) that they had troubles accessing data from the PPATK.
“The DPR supported this 1000 percent. We will see if the BPK’s audit result is at its maximum already or if PPATK purposefully scared the BPK (by not giving the requested data) by using the law as an alibi,” Priyo said.
According to the law, the PPATK can only reveal their data to the police or to the Attorney General’s Office.
The Bank Century bailout was one of the issues raised by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in a meeting with media chief editors on Sunday night. Yudhoyono said he wanted the case to be out in the open.
“I read SBY’s statement straight from my BlackBerry and I think SBY’s wish to open the Bank Century case must be highly appreciated. if the president is progressive, all elements of the government should support that,” Priyo said, adding that it is possible that the DPR will use its inquiry rights if it finds any legal violations in the case.
