Bill Drummond: 'I love Lady gaga'

Bill Drummond has said that he is a fan of Lady GaGa despite not owning any of her music.

The ex-KLF man, who produced 1988 number one single ‘Doctorin’ the Tardis’ with Timelords bandmate Jimmy Cauty, told The Quietus that he hardly listens to music anymore.

Drummond said: “It’s all been thrown out. Every time I hear recorded music it sounds, yuck, old-fashioned to me, whatever the genre is.

“I listen to stuff by accident, and I’m drawn to kind of, you know… I love Lady GaGa. Just as a pop phenomenon. I find that interesting, from what I’ve heard.

“But I mean, we both know I’m never going to be listening to a Lady GaGa CD or download or walking round the streets listening to it on an iPod, but I can still enjoy it.”

When asked if he only likes the idea of Lady GaGa, he added: “Yeah. Yeah, well, and some of the songs, you know, it kinda works. but there’s a retro thing to it that I don’t really… theoretically I don’t like the idea of retro.”

Lady Gaga on Her Gossip Girl Appearance: 'It's Very Peformance Art'

When Lady Gaga planned an appearance on Gossip Girl, she had an idea of what she’d be wearing. but in true Gaga style, the end result was something of a spectacle.

“We discussed having a very flowy red dress,” she told PEOPLE on the set of the show after filming a performance of her new single, “Bad Romance.” “But [the dress] arrived today and it’s about 30-feet long! that was an adjustment. but nothing that I couldn’t handle.”

She can say that again: Gaga worked the epic garment in rehearsals, wowing the crew who watched her intently as she and her dancers put on a show.

“It’s a little bit more of a fashion montage,” she says of her performance on the show, which airs tonight (9 p.m. EST) on the CW. “It’s very performance art.”

But the storyline is pure Gossip Girl. on the episode, Blair (Leighton Meester) feels the need to impress her new classmates at new York University and gain some traction in the social scene, so she promises a private concert with Gaga.

“I do like the show,” says Gaga, who caught up on several episodes while working in Germany. Her youngest sister, adds Gaga, is “the hugest fan.”

As for her audience, the pop star says there’s an overlap among her fans and the show’s viewers: “I’ve got so many young fans,” she says. “I forget sometimes, but I try to be mindful of that in my work.” and the performance, she promises with the slightest of smiles, will thrill.

“For me, this is one of the most innovative ways an artist has performed on a television show,” she says. “It’s exciting.” –Rennie Dyball

Lady Gaga announces NZ show

Stuff.co.nz

Just six months ago she was here opening for The Pussycat Dolls, but chart-topping pop star Lady Gaga is now big enough to be headlining her own show.

Lady Gaga, singer of hits Paparazzi, just Dance and Poker Face, has announced her second new Zealand performance in under a year, to be held at Auckland’s Vector Arena on March 13.

She last performed in new Zealand at the same venue as the opening act for the Pussycat Dolls on may 16, at one stage baring her bottom and simulating masturbation to the crowd.

Stuff.co.nz reviewer Clio Francis said: “With back-up dancers in tow and dressed in a kooky newspaper print one-piece, Gaga stamped her dominance on the crowd as she stormed around the stage, at one point simulating masturbation.

“She sung much of (Poker Face) standing on a stool in sky-high stilettos, bent double over the piano hammering out the keys.”

Poker Face has been a No. 1 hit in new Zealand, and her tour coincides with a re-release of her album The Fame.

Tickets for the one-off show go on sale on December 3.

Lady Gaga Is Ineligible For Best New Artist Grammy in 2010

Few new artists in recent years have made an impact on the pop music scene as quickly as Lady Gaga, who won the Best new Artist VMA this September. But her catchy #1 hits and unpredictable performances aren’t enough to make her eligible for the new artist category at next year’s Grammy Awards.

According to Variety, because her song “Just Dance” was nominated for best dance recording at this year’s Grammy Awards, regulations state that the singer can’t be placed on the ballot as a new artist this January. she lost the Grammy last year to Daft Punk for their song “Harder Better faster Stronger.”

Recently, Gaga sat down with MTV News to discuss the onslaught of accolades she’s received in the last year since breaking out on the scene as a leotard-wearing disco queen with her album The Fame and then elevating her act to avant-garde performance art.

“[I also want something that] isn’t this Hollywood kind of future that we imagine all pop stars go to,” explained Gaga, whose The Fame Monster rerelease comes out next Monday. “I have to find my own space. I try to reject all of that. I try to stay internal and just focus on myself.”

Lady Gaga is an “extreme dresser”

Lady Gaga is in the December issue of Vogue where she tries really hard to be a unique snowflake. In her spread, shot by Annie Leibovitz and inspired by Hansel and Gretel, Gaga plays a witch dressed by Marc Jacobs. A tad inaccurate I might add as the real witch in that story was dressed by Donatella Versace.

Even before the shoot though, Gaga was try-hard, showing up to 4 Times Square wearing “a trailing white chiffon Galliano goddess gown with a Philip Treacy headdress that spelled VOGUE in clipped white feathers.” On the day of, she came “stark naked except for her white rubber raincoat and some very, very high heels!” Asked “What up wit dat?”, Gaga tells Vogue, “I’ve always been an outspoken and extreme dresser.”

Gaga isn’t lying. Just look at her when she performed only about four years ago at The Bitter End in January of ‘06. Check out that eccentric outfit she’s wearing. White boots with spandex? That’s crazy!

Hotel review: Hotel Missoni, Edinburgh – where Lady Gaga goes wild for fine …

By Sarah Turner
Last updated at 9:14 PM on 15th November 2009

Continuing our occasional series on the world’s hippest hotels and the stars who frequent them, Sarah Turner checks in to check out the Hotel Missoni, Edinburgh.

STAR QUALITY: Lady Gaga, Snow Patrol.

VITAL STATISTICS: Opened in June, this is the first in a series of hotels overseen by the cult Italian fashion label. The bar, off the main lobby, has a catwalk quality, with giant vases, chairs suitable only for contortionists and chain-mail curtains.

Hotel Missoni: A riot of colour and pattern in the Scottish capital

La Cucina, the hotel’s restaurant, is deliberately relaxed, withfood that is designed to be shared by the whole table. Hearty dishesinclude rabbit with polenta and risotto, followed by tiramisu – LadyGaga hosted a dinner party here when she booked in.

Breakfast isn’t for size zeros either, with fry-ups as well as aselection of Italian pastries and cakes. The 136 rooms and suitesreinforce the fashion brand’s roots with a very complicated espressomachine. Emptying the minibar is included in the room rate, but it is -slightly disappointingly – stocked only with beer, fruit juice andwater. Wi-fi is also free, and there’s no charge for more than 100films on demand.

LOCATION REPORT: Havingreplaced an anonymous office block, the large windows make the most ofthe commanding views of Edinburgh. Christmas kicks off from November26. Edinburgh’s main Christmas tree at St Giles’ Cathedral will be astroll away and it’s a short walk to Princes Gardens, which will have afunfair, grotto and Christmas market. Nearby, the funkier boutiques ofVictoria Street lead to the Grassmarket – many rooms have views ofArthur’s Seat. The D’Argento penthouse suite has a balcony and on aclear day you can see all the way to Fife.

KEY ATTRACTION: It’s achance to eat, breathe, but – above all – sleep fashion. Most newhotels opt for a safe-but-dull palette of white and beige. The Missoni, however, is alive with colour and pattern, from the jewel-colouredbathrooms to the striped lifts. Many fashion houses, particularlyVersace, have tried to branch out into hotels, but the Missoni familyhave attached more than their name to the project. Instead, they havedesigned everything from the bedlinen and bathroom blinds to thenapkins in the restaurant, intoxicating and amusing in equal measure.

IN THE NEWS: Musicians LadyGaga and Snow Patrol stayed during the summer’s T In The Park festival, only to find themselves wearing their striped and highly fashionableMissoni dressing gowns (170) in the street after a false fire alarmthat caused the building to be evacuated.

Spoiler Chat: Lady Gaga Gets in on Gossip Girl Threesome!

Tim in Bowling Green, Ohio: I’m curious, is Dexter more interested in Trinity as a mentor or as a nemesis?
We just saw Michael C. Hall himself and asked him this and he told us, “Both, as is often the case with Dexter. I think the only answer I can give you is both. What’s really fun about it is Dexter as an equal amount of reverence and disdain for the character and those things are commingled in the relationship.”

Jackie in San Francisco: Does Debs search for her dads confidential informants change her relationship with her brother?
We were wondering the same thing, and Jennifer Carpenter told us, “It has to, because it changes her relationship with herself, and it changes her relationship with her father.”

Randall in New York: Last week’s Supernatural was unbelievable! So hilarious and so well done. Got any scoop on what’s next?
According to my mole: There is an episode coming next year in which Anna returns and wants to kill Sam, so he doesn’t say yes to Lucifer. She travels back in time to kill Mary and John Winchester, so Dean and Sam go back in time to try and stop her. So does that mean we’ll see Jeffrey Dean Morgan again? Sadly, no, as it will be “young John” and “young Mary.” For the record, CW, I like my John W. old and scruffy and JDM-y!
