John Mayer’s Battle Studies is the Genghis Khan of the chart wars this week, with 286,000 copies sold—making it his first no. 1 Billboard spot since 2003’s Heavier Things. (Despite the fact that 2007’s Continuum beat it numbers-wise at 300K, it bowed at no. 2—damn you, Justin Timberlake!).
Andrea Bocelli’s deck-the-halls-with-opera opus My Christmas hung tight at no. 2, while Norah Jones’ The Fall snagged the third spot with 180,000 copies (her previous effort, 2007’s Not Too Late, moved 405,000).
Surprisingly, 50 Cent’s Before I Self Destruct landed fifth behind Christian soft-rockers Casting Crowns’ fifth release, Until the Whole World Hears, selling only 160,000. for Fitty, that’s a nearly half-a-million-unit fall from the 691,000-copy debut of 2007’s Curtis.
And—squeeeee!—15-year-old mall-pop pin-up Justin Bieber moved a respectable 137,000 copies of his debut EP My World; not bad for a kid who can’t even get licensed to drive yet. Two film soundtracks, Michael Jackson’s This Is it and one for a little indie flick called New Moon, held strong at 96,000 and 93,000 respectively. but pity the American Idol champ Kris Allen, whose 80,000-units no. 11 finish, while not tragic, easily falls in the lowest first-week sales for the show’s top finishers.
Who did Allen beat? Rock supergroup Them crooked Vultures, who tabbed a healthy 70,000—besting U.K. diva Leona Lewis, no less, who may not be so “Happy” with her no. 13 bow. a true legend, Beatle Paul McCartney, snagged the no. 16 spot with his Live in New York City release.
Tune in next week, music fans, when the battle gets pitched for real: the face-off between Rihanna, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga, Shakira and stealth chart-bomber Susan Boyle (she’s projected to hit up to a whopping 600,000 unit sales) is but a week—and eighteen tons of turkey leftovers—away.

Yesterday, Ellen DeGeneres presented one of her “Read Letter Day” segments, where she reads and responds to fan mail. One of the letters was from a girl from Connecticut who lamented the fact that she missed the episode featuring Justin Bieber’s performance. “That’s why I keep guests around just in case,” she said. The host stood up from her chair and found Bieber lying on the ground behind her reading an issue of O magazine.
Bieber was greeted with rapturous cheers from the audience and gave a shout-out to the fan from Connecticut. After announcing the release of his album My World yesterday, Ellen mentioned that Bieber was on Usher’s label and that it was only appropriate that Usher was there too.
The curtain on the “Ellen” stage parted and revealed Usher, who danced in and hugged DeGeneres. The R&B superstar told the story about how he found Bieber and revealed that what sold him was Justin’s rendition of “U Got It Bad.”
DeGeneres then raised the stakes. “You guys should dance a tiny, tiny bit,” she said. “Yeah!” kicked in on the PA and the pair both started busting out moves, including Usher’s strange sideways moonwalk that Bieber aped perfectly. They closed out the show by reminding everybody about Bieber’s golden ticket promotion, which will give winners a chance for a private concert from Bieber and the opportunity to be in one of his videos.

Rumor has it that The Exorcist TV mini-series could actually become a reality. Brace yourselves horror fans. Get the story, along with photos and video here.
The original film was released back in 1973, but it has been remade and re-imagined numerous times in the last few years. I’m guessing the popularity of those remakes is what led to the idea—milk it for everything you can.
The cool part is that the film’s original director, William Friedkin, is on board and will reportedly contribute to the TV series. That’s at least a little reassurance that it isn’t going to be too hokey—I’m sure he won’t let it go that route.
As a major fan of both television and horror, I do have some reservations about this. First off, how can you stretch something like The Exorcist into a mini-series? I’m afraid it may seem a little drawn out. Usually for a multi-part TV show, you have to have a decent primary plot, along with at least one subplot. To accomplish that, it will take some serious creativity.
We’ll just have to see what they come up with! – Perez Hilton
Alright you Vamp-obsessed peeps, the CW is gearing up for a Vampire Diaries marathon next month – Buddy TV
15-year-old Justin Bieber just might be the next big thing (good God I hope not). Anyway, he apparently killed it on Good Morning America this week – Neon Limelight
Okay, okay. Are R-Patz and K-Stew actually together? – Gabby Babble
Gossip Girl Blake Lively hit the red carpet at the premiere of ‘The Private Lives of Pippa Lee’ – Celebridiot
New couple alert! Are Aaron Eckhart and Molly Sims dating? – Just Jared
Taylor Lautner is doing his part to promote New Moon, this time on Jay Leno – Celebrity Smack!
Lynne Curtin from the fake Real Housewives of Orange County has had some serious nipping and tucking going on – Bumpshack
Find out why R-Patz was rushed out of the studio during an interview with Ryan Seacrest – Bitten And Bound
…now back to The Exorcist TV mini-series. I personally can’t wait. Anything will be a relief from the snore-fest shows that have been on lately, all of which seem to focus on snotty privileged kids.
I couldn’t help myself. I threw in the head-spin video–rocks!
