With anticipation building for this week’s release of “New Moon,” the second installment in the “Twilight” saga, based on Stephenie Meyer’s books, three of the movie’s featured actors spoke by phone about their roles.
“New Moon” interrupts the romance of Bella and vampire Edward — who abandons her out of fear that she will be hurt — but throws in a huge temptation with Jacob, who along with members of his tribe are spurred by their genes to turn into werewolves to face the ancient threat of vampires.
“New Moon” also introduces the ruling set of vampires, the Volturi, who may determine Edward’s and Bella’s fate.
Here’s what Chaske Spencer, who plays the leader of the werewolf pack, Sam Uley; Kellan Lutz, who plays the athletic, fun-loving vampire Emmett Cullen; and Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays the old and conniving Volturi vampire, Caius, had to say about the rise of “New Moon:”
Chaske Spencer, best known now for his role in “Into the West, now takes over the werewolves: In order to prepare for the character of Sam Uley, you went through wolf camp. What was that like?
I got into shape prior to going to Vancouver but the camp was intense and hard. The routine was muscle circuit training. I put on 20 pounds of muscle and am now almost 200 pounds. Before the wolf camp, I traveled to L.A. first to be scanned by CGI for the digital wolf parts.
In this film, you spend a lot of time with Alex Meraz (Paul), Kiowa Gordon (Embry), Bronson Pelletier (Jared) and Tinsel Korey (Emily). Did you guys bond pretty quickly?
We, the guys, all bonded pretty quickly during wolf training.
Working with Tinsel Korey was amazing. She is an amazing actress. Beautiful. Prior to filming we met and talked over coffee to build chemistry because our first scene to film was a kissing scene. It was a pleasure to work with her.
What was your favorite scene to film?
Kissing Tinsel was my favorite scene to film.
You started your career in the off-Broadway play “Dracula.” Which do you find more intense? Broadway or film?
