Michael Jackson posthumously won four more American Music Awards Sunday night, making him the biggest winner of all time with 23 of the awards, reports BBC News.

Jackson was honored as Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock and Favorite Male Artist Soul/R&B, and his greatest hits collection Number Ones won Best Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B album. Jacksons brother Jermaine accepted the awards on his behalf while wearing one sparkling glove, according to NME.

“He saw good in everyone and he wanted everyone to do good,” Jermaine Jackson said. “He always started with love.”

Taylor Swift, who took home five of the awards, paid tribute to Jackson while accepting her awards live via satellite in London, reports MTV News. “To even be mentioned in a category with Michael Jackson, who we will miss and love forever, is an unimaginable honor,” Swift said as she accepted the Artist of the Year award.

ama's 2009: Janet Jackson Delivers an Emotional Performance

Janet Jackson’s 2009 American Music Awards performance yesterday may not have been the most shocking of the night, but it can certainly be classed as the most heartfelt and emotional, with the 43-year old singer playing tribute to her brother Michael.

According to associatedcontent.com, Janet made several shout-outs and tributes to her late brother Michael, during last night’s performance. The songs she performed included her 1989 hit “Miss You Much” and another great hit “Together Again.”

Janet’s performance lasted a whole 7 minutes, proving that even though she is 43-years old, she still has the stamina to perform. Janet also proved that despite the sadness that she has suffered this year, that she could still entertain the masses.

Adam Lambert defends AMAs performance

Adam Lambert has addressed his controversial performance at last night’s American Music Awards.

The American Idol star hit the headlines after his sexually suggestive rendition of new track ‘For your Entertainment’, which included kissing another man.

Speaking to CNN after the show, the singer claimed that the kiss had been “in the moment” and was not a choreographed part of his performance.

“Part of what I love about being a performer is sometimes you are just in the moment and things happen. Adrenaline is a crazy feeling,” he explained.

Lambert went on to say that he had not been trying to make a statement, but “in hindsight, I do feel like there is a bit of a double standard in the entertainment industry”.

He added: “I feel like women performers have been pushing the envelope sexually for the past 20 years and all of a sudden a male does it and everybody goes, ‘Oh, we can’t show that on TV’. for me, it’s a form of discrimination and a double standard and that’s too bad.”

Michael Jackson Scoops Four Posthumous amas

The most unsurprising development at last night’s (Nov. 22) American Music Awards was the posthumous honoring of Michael Jackson. the singer won four awards at the ceremony, which was staged at the celeb-packed Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, and passed by with little incident (aside from Jennifer Lopez slipping over during a dance routine).

Jackson won individual awards in the Best Pop/Rock Male artist and Best Soul/R&B Male categories, and he also scooped prizes for his Number Ones album, which won in the Pop/Rock and Soul/R&B categories. the singer is now the most honored artist in the history of the ceremony, having won 23 AMAs.

Jermaine Jackson picked up the awards on his brother’s behalf, and said: “He saw good in everyone and he wanted everyone to do good. He always started with love.” Michael’s famous jewel-encrusted glove worn during his moonwalk performance from 1983 was sold at auction for $350,000 over the weekend.

AMAs Throw Prizes At Taylor Swift & Michael Jackson

The American Music Awards – like the Grammys, but more likely to make you lose total faith in humanity – always surprise.

And last night they surprised. the two biggest winners at last night’s AMAs were Taylor Swift (who wasn’t there) and Michael Jackson (who hasn’t released an album of new material since 2001) (and was nominated for a Greatest Hits album that’s over six years old) (and who is quite conclusively dead).

That wasn’t the surprise, though. no, the big surprise was that Black Eyed Peas won the prize for Best Pop Group. honestly, what’s wrong with these people? Don’t they have ears?

Oh good. It’s the American Music Awards. you know what this means, don’t you? It means that awards season is here. soon we’ll be up to our necks in 150 different types of award shows, all doling out meaningless baubles to films that nobody watched, music that nobody paid for and TV shows that people only put on because they’re afraid of silence. Joy.

And if the American Music Awards are any indication, the theme of this year’s award season is going to be Let’s Give Loads of Stuff to Michael Jackson. Last night at the AMAs, Michael Jackson won Best Soul Artist, Best Pop Male, Best Pop Album and Best Soul Album, even though he didn’t release anything within the allotted time period for nominations. Or within any of the last eight allotted time periods for nominations, in fact. People reports:

“It’s not just about the winnings, the awards,” his brother Jermaine said in an acceptance speech. “It’s mainly the message. the message Michael had will live on forever. he saw good in everyone. … Start with love and let’s love each other.” Sister Janet Jackson got a standing ovation when she opened the show with a choreographed-heavy medley of her hits.

Jermaine Jackson is right – the continued love for Michael Jackson isn’t about winning the awards. It’s about being nominated for the awards, because that way Jermaine Jackson gets to spend his evenings somewhere warm where there’s free food. It’s going to be a cold winter, and he’ll need to stock up before people start forgetting about his brother.

It’s no surprise that Michael Jackson won so many American Music Awards – he was nominated for several of them, after all – but we’re praying that this doesn’t start a trend. Sure, a handful of AMAs are one thing, but nobody wants the Oscars to follow suit and award Moonwalker the Best Picture trophy, do they? nobody wants the Best Supporting Actor Golden Globe to go to Michael Jackson for his role in the Wiz, do they? nobody wants Michael Jackson to win a retroactive British Comedy Award for that time he hilariously dangled his baby from a balcony, do they? What? they do? weird.

But just because Michael Jackson won so many prizes, it doesn’t mean that the American Music Awards only honour washed-up shells of their former selves out of nothing more than a mixture of guilt and nostalgia, even though the acts are thoroughly undeserving of them, does it? Just take a look at who won the AMA Artist of the Year award last night.

It was Whitney Houston. OK, you may have a point.

Water Advisory Committee opposes potential loss of AMA office

The state still needs to cut at least another $1.5 billion from the current budget.

Her office gets a lot of walk-in traffic that otherwise would have to travel to Phoenix, Wildeman said. for example, it helps about 100 well owners fill out paperwork each year so they don’t get left out of the Gila River adjudication process.

Her office currently is in the process of collecting data for the next 10-year Prescott AMA management plan that takes effect in 2010, Wildeman said. the Prescott AMA office is charged with helping the Prescott region stop depleting its groundwater supplies by 2025.

The Prescott AMA is unique in that it has thousands of unregulated residential wells, Wildeman added.

“You risk losing recognition of local issues” if the office closes, she said.

The Prescott AMA office currently has only four employees after losing two recently, she said. Hydrologist Leslie Graser’s last day was Friday.

Members of the Water Advisory Committee said they might try to offer building space or even budget assistance to keep the Prescott office open. the committee’s members include Yavapai County and all its municipalities and tribes.

Committee members asked Wildeman for the Prescott AMA’s budget amount, but she said she was unsure of that number.

“I think it would be devastating” if the office closed, said Jim Holt, the office’s former director who now is the outgoing Big Chino Water Ranch manager for the City of Prescott. at the same time, he said he recognizes the tough decisions the state faces, so the office might have to close a few years until the economy recovers.

Prescott Valley Town Council Member Mike Flannery wondered how long it would take to get the office back if the area loses it.

“There’s always a disproportionate impact in rural areas,” outgoing Prescott City Council Member Bob Roecker said. “There’s got to be a way we can make this work.”

The governor’s office reportedly is not considering closure of the Phoenix or Tucson AMA offices. the water committee already sent a letter to the Department of Water Resources protesting its written budget proposal to eliminate its rural water program. Brewer directed all the departments to describe how they can cut 15 percent if necessary.

Yavapai County Supervisor Carol Springer disapproved of the last Water Committee letter, and she again voiced her disapproval of the new letter, although she said she wouldn’t officially oppose it. the committee operates on a consensus basis, so it couldn’t send a letter with Springer’s formal opposition.

“The (state budget) problem is so huge … I truthfully do not support agencies lobbying,” Springer said. “Yes, these are really important (services) to us, but are we going to die if they go away? no.”
