BEYONCE and LADY GAGA’s nine-minute video for their TELEPHONE single has become an overnight internet sensation.

The Crazy In Love hitmaker included Gaga on her Video Phone track last year (09) and she has returned by the favour by singing on the Poker Face singer’s latest offering.

the video for the pair’s second duet debuted online on Thursday (11Mar10), and has caused controversy with scenes of nudity, swearing, a lesbian kiss and murder.

but the short film, which is nearly 10 minutes long, has already proved popular – it was viewed 500,000 times on the web in the 12 hours after its release.

DVD sales of bomb disposal drama Hurt Locker have soared since the low-budget film won a surprise six Oscars.

The dramatic story of a US team in Iraq eclipsed Avatar at the event, picking up the two biggest awards of the night – best picture and best director for Kathryn Bigelow.

HMV said sales of the low-budget film on DVD have tripled since last week and the movie is now the store’s biggest seller.

Rudy Osorio from HMV told Sky News Online: ‘Because the movie was one of the lowest-grossing best picture winners of all time there are clearly a huge amount of people that haven’t seen it and now want to catch up.’

The film is also selling well online. On Amazon.co.uk, one of the UK’s biggest DVD retailers, the film is currently topping the format’s sales chart.

Sky Movies also reports a ’significant increase’ in demand to watch the film on its Sky Box Office pay-per-view service, since Sunday’s awards.

Director of Sky Box Office, Ian Lewis said: ‘The buzz prior to the Oscars has helped boost viewing figures to exceed our expectations.

‘Now given its awards success, we anticipate a further increase in buys from now into April.’

The trend for a film to do well after Oscar success is well known and called ‘Oscar bounce’.

It normally breathes new life into a film’s cinema run.

But because the Hurt Locker was released in the UK in September last year its cinema run is largely over, so instead that bounce is being felt on DVD.

In the previous 3 films, of Shrek (Mike Myers) has been through many things. Among these challenging evil dragon and save the princess. then what will happen next in this fourth film? In this film Shrek decides to become a family man. but, secretly longing for Shrek to save the moment he became the real giant.

Shrek (Mike Myers) has become a domesticated family man. instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, the grown-reluctant ogre agrees to autograph pitch forks. Longing for the days when he felt like a “real ogre,” Shrek is tricked into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn).

Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Donkey (Eddie Murphy) is an intellectual who has never met Shrek, Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) is still alive. Puss (Antonio Banderas) is fat and lazy and Fiona (Cameron Diaz) is a hunting ogre now, it’s up to Shrek to undo all of Rumpelstiltskin’s mischief in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world, and reclaiming his One True Love and family.

The animator-turned actor also revealed how he got into the part. “My character shouts a lot. So before going into the booth, I would drink, like, 20 cups of coffee and get good and yelly.”

So would this gig tempt him into the Hollywood fame machine? “It was sort of a joke around the office that I would go on to pursue my acting career, like appearing on ‘Law & Order’ or something.” In the meantime, he seems plenty happy finishing up the movie in time for its may 21 release date

Lady Gaga and Beyonce’s long-awaited “Telephone” video is finally here and just as we’d all hoped, it’s a fashion explosion.

Set in a prison, the Tarantino-inspired video follows Gaga and Beyonce’s Sid and Nancy-esque love affair from jail bailout to mass murder in a honky-tonk and trailer-trash diner. Naturally, they end up on the lam in a red and yellow, flame-detailed “P*ssy Wagon.”

But while the storyline of the 10 minute long video is certainly compelling and creative, it’s Gaga and Beyonce’s getups that have us totally obsessed. And since both artists are undeniably fashion icons — though Gaga may wear the crown better than Beyonce — we don’t doubt that this video will make waves in the industry, both as inspiration and confirmation of trends already here and to come.

Without further ado, the five trends inspired and confirmed by “Telephone.”

1. Geometric Cat-Eye Sunglasses

Already seen on the runways of Alexander Wang, Lady Gaga’s razorblade version of the geometric cat-eye is, for lack of a better and/or more appropriate word, fierce.

2. Ombre Hair

Inspired, no doubt, by Dazed and Confused editrice Kate Shillingford’s icy hues, Gaga brought back her Grammy-worn, ombre yellow hair — and to wonderful effect. Paired with trashtastic Americana clothing, the look was equal parts diner waitress bleach and lower east side grown-out dye-job. we love.

3. Statement Hats

Gaga has been at this for a while and she’s showing no signs of giving up: the woman is determined to bring back the statement hat. while her’s typically involve astronomical constellations and/or entire telephones, we’re sure this is easily translatable into something slightly more interesting than the fedora. we called it first.

4. Less Skin
While this concept may at first seem contradictory to, well, the entire video, we don’t doubt that these burka-inspired costumes were a very deliberate decision. yes, Gaga is somewhere between three-quarters and half-naked for the majority of the video, but she and Beyonce choose to cover-up at a key point in the narrative arc. Anyway, at the close of the FW 2010 shows, the undeniable takeaway was that hemlines are coming down and fashion is moving in a more demure direction. Gaga agrees.

5. Food

And finally, our favorite please-bring-it-back of the video: high-fat, low-health, greasy-spoon, and therefore utterly delicious food. from the moment Beyonce ferociously shoves a honeybun in Gaga’s open mouth, to the poisoned albeit heavily mayonnaised sandwiches, these ladies know how to eat. And considering Marc Jacobs’ effort to cast a wide range of ages and sizes in his FW2010 show for Louis Vuitton, Crystal Renn’s meteoric and no doubt satisfying rise to the top, and, of course, V magazine’s size issue, it’s easy to admit that Gaga and Beyonce are right on trend.

LOTUS Racing were the most productive team among the F1 newcomers as the 19-race season got under way with the practice sessions running under scorching desert heat at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir yesterday.

The day also marked exactly six months to the date since the Malaysian-backed teams entry into the 2010 F1 season was confirmed and they got more than they bargained for in their return after 16 years when both cars put in the most laps collectively among the new teams.

Finlands Heikki Kovalainen clocked 2:03.848 in the morning practice and was placed 20th and he brought it down to 2:00.873 for 18th spot in the afternoon to emerge fastest among the newcomers.

Jarno Trulli was just behind his team-mate in both sessions. the Italian, who started on pole last year when he was driving for Toyota, clocked 2:03.970 (21st) in the morning and his best time in the afternoon was 2:00.990 (19th).

Virgin Racings Timo Glock and Lucas Di Grassi clocked 2:02.037 (20th) and 2:02.188 (21st) respectively.

Bruno Senna of Hispana F1 had clutch problems in the morning and eventually ended slowest of the lot in 2:06.968 after the second practice session, 11 seconds off the pace.

His team-mate, Karun Chandhok, failed to set a time due to a reported hydraulic problem while Sebastian Buemi of Scuderia Toro Rosso skipped the second practice session.

Both Kovalainen and Trulli combined for a total of 73 laps and it was creditable for a team who were the last to be accepted into the world championship series.

Kovalainen, the former McLaren team-mate to Lewis Hamilton, hailed it a fantastic opening track outing for the team yesterday.

We started from zero and the team have grown since then. To see it up and running without any problem today is just a great feeling. I have confidence we can be better but if only we had something like 10 months to develop the car, he said.

Team principal Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes said that it was a baptism of fire in every sense.

Bahrain is not an easy race to start the season. its very hot, dry and there is sand, so its a baptism of fire for us, he said.

But you got to start somewhere, so lets hope that we finish the race. everything above that will be a bonus, whether we come last, second last or third last.

In the GP2 Asia series, there were cheers when Malaysias Qi-MeritusMahara.com driver Luca Filippi grabbed pole position after qualifying for the first race of the season ended yesterday.

Filippi, who was fifth after the practice session of the support race for the Bahrain GP earlier, stormed to the top of the time sheets on 2:07.087.

Alexander Rossi, who was fourth in the practice earlier, only managed the 10th fastest time of 2:08.22 after failing to get a clear last-lap run.

Tony Staskunas to support the legislation.The law would penalize an attempt to commit certain crimes against children the same as if the act were completed.Supporters said the change will mean certain online predator cases involving undercover law enforcement officers can be eligible for greater sentences.”There is nothing different in their actions when they’re reaching out to somebody they believe is a child than when they’re actually reaching out to a real child and we believe that they should be punished accordingly,” said Van Hollen.Lawmakers in Madison will hold a public hearing on the bill next week.

In Wroclaw, people had a banner with a scale stating that “women’s work does not pay”, in reference to both wage differences between men and women and the fact that in many low-paid service sectors and “feminized” professions, women are stuck doing hard jobs for little money. many of the slogans chanted there were responses to the liberal feminists on the march who want a certain liberal feminist leader to become president. they chanted “No patriarchy, no capitalism” and “We don’t want parity, we want revolution”, among other things.

In Warsaw ZSP marched for the third year in a row with WRS, this year calling itself “the revolutionary block”. the Warsaw demonstration, unlike the Wroclaw one, had some union delegations and the revolutionary block was joined part of the way by the teachers’ union ZNP. the attempt to make a more pro-social demo however seems to have alientated many marches; the demonstration was less than half the size (perhaps a third of the size) of last year.

The march in Warsaw was also met by fascists of different sorts, notably the Falanga and all-Polish youth and the traditional exchange of curses with anarchists.

Solidarity in Stuggle? but for what and against what?

The slogan of this year’s Manifa “In Solidarity in the Crisis, In Solidarity in the Struggle” is meant to be a clear reference to the labour strugle and an allusion to the history of the Women’s Day march. As participants of this march who have each year come to the demonstration calling for women’s greater participation in workplace organizing and anticapitalist social movements, it would seem we should be delighted that such a slogan would appear this year.

Unfortunately we are faced with a different reality when coming to the Manifa and that is that large parts of the dominant figures in the feminist movement are in fact in solidarity with the neoliberal project or reformist social democracy which in fact is just a dangerous distraction from the real struggle: the struggle for building a grassroots social and labour movement, independent of the bosses and politicians. only such a movement can start to break free from their agenda and threaten to topple their power.

Besides holding the occasional one-off lecture at some university on “women’s role in labour”, we wonder what the mainstream of the women’s movement has been doing to show working class women that they are in solidarity with them. Surely not continuing with insisting that neoliberal women like Henryka Bochniarz* are somehow in the same struggle as “women in general”. the voices of feminists who claim no support for the neoliberal agenda are drowned by the chorus of moderate conformists who insist that women don’t push such “divisive” issues as the class struggle.

Another project which has been one of the main activities of the feminist movement, but is surely a diversion, is the call to introduce parity on electoral lists. At a time when working women are facing increasing hardship and need to organize effective, fighting social movements, the project of political parity is an astounding waste of reousces and activist time. we do not believe that gender determines the political line of women and the existence of powerful women in government or political life is no consolation to us. the fate of the Thatchers, Albrights and Rices of the world should be the same as the Berlusconis, Sarkozies and Obamas.

The political project of parity in Poland, at very best, can only guarantee us more HGWs, Anna Sobieskas and Nelly Rokitas, if not a string of female party hopefuls a la Aneta Krawczyk. (*)

There is no getting around it: women are part of the oppressive system, even if to a lesser degree than men. If one recognizes the postulates of capitalism to be the main factor in the dire situation of working women, changing over from capitalist bastards to capitalist bitches is no progress. Selling it as so is just another liberal diversion to keep people from getting to the root of the problems or waging any struggle which may threaten what the system really must maintain: not the patriarchy, but capitalism and political power over the people.

Much as we are opposed to sexism in all its aspects, the patriarchy can be significantly topples and still leave the system of exploitation and slavery in tact. Fighting the patriarchy is simply not enough.

Although we can support goals to change the politics of single issues (for example, eliminating laws that interfer with women’s reproductive choices), a women’s movement which stops at any issue wich may not be to the liking of the bourgeois, statist or neoliberal feminists does not excite us. for this reason, we do not go to your “breakthrough congresses” dominated by elites, or vote for the “Women’s Party” or stand on corners collecting signatures for parity, but call for women to be more active in the grassroots social revolutionary struggle.

For a world without bosses or masters, without bureaucrats or patriarchs.

A video making the rounds today shows a dog in Chile performing a heroic act — pulling a friend from oncoming traffic on a busy road. A traffic camera caught the rescuer bravely dodging cars to drag the injured dog to the side of the road.

Perhaps called by one of the motorists who hit the dog before it was pulled to safety, a rescue crew shows up at the end of the video.

We can’t tell whether the poor pup survived the experience or not, but three woofs to the hero dog! he deserves a lifetime supply of treats.

UPDATE: After hundreds of thousands of people viewed the video of the hero dog last week, authorities understandably received a few calls about him, some from people wanting to adopt. and along with those in the comment section, we at Unleashed wondered about the fate of his injured friend.

Bad news, dear readers, if you haven’t heard:

Highway crews removed both the dead and live dogs from the median strip of the Vespucio Norte Highway shortly after the Dec. 4 incident, and the rescuer dog ran away.

Authorities say images of the rescue prompted some people to call and offer to adopt the dog, but neither highway workers nor a television crew could find they animal when they went to hunt for it.

Hero dog, we hardly knew ye.
